Paul Vachon withdraws from political life: Loss of a great diplomat and ambassador of the region!

Mr. Vachon will have served for more than eight years as a board director of the SDE Thetford region.

THETFORD MINES, SEPTEMBER 30, 2021. It is with great emotion and a strong sense of gratitude that the staff and board of directors of the Société de développement économique de la région de Thetford (SDE) recently learned of the retirement from political life of Mr. Paul Vachon, prefect of the Appalaches Regional County Municipality. Mr. Vachon will have served for more than eight years as a board director of the SDE Thetford region.

Since November 2013, as prefect of the Appalaches Regional County Municipality, Mr. Vachon was at the heart of several political files, and it is with conviction and energy that he was able to defend the interests of the region. He actively collaborated with the SDE Thetford region on various economic files. Among others, we can mention the Southern Sector Diversification Committee, the Appalaches Economic Concertation Committee, the natural gas extension file, the Agri-food Processing Centre, the Mount Adstock Recreation and Tourism Development Plan, the Festival des Cousins, the government pre-budget consultations, the King Mine Historical Centre, the $50 million diversification fund, the international recruitment project, the abolition of the local development centre (CLD) and the reorganization of economic development services, the COVID emergency committee and, of course, the vast asbestos file that has kept him very busy throughout his four terms as prefect.

"I really enjoyed working with Mr. Vachon. We had the opportunity to work together almost daily. Always available, he has established himself as a true ambassador for the region. Wisely, always poised, inclusive, patient, and respectful, Mr. Vachon is truly an outstanding diplomat who has greatly contributed to the advancement of many issues for the region. We will certainly miss his expertise, his knowledge of the political milieu and his approach. We wish him an excellent retirement, good health, and much pleasure with his family. On behalf of the members of the Board of Directors as well as the staff of the SDE, a big thank you dear Paul for your contagious smile, your good mood, your dedication and for your unfailing support in many initiatives and files over the years. This is only a goodbye, not a farewell, because we hope to see you again with pleasure in the activities to come", commented Mr. Luc Rémillard, general manager of the SDE Thetford region.
