The 2021 edition of the Desjardins Dragons

The 2021 edition of the Desjardins Dragons

Version française

Thetford Mines, May 19, 2021 - The 2021 edition of the Desjardins Dragons took place on April 30 and May 7 in a virtual way. Young people from the high schools of the Centre de services scolaire des Appalaches and A.S. Johnson Memorial High School were able to present projects to a panel of local Dragons. Composed of two entrepreneurs from the region and a representative from Desjardins, the Dragons attended the presentation of 13 projects during these two half-days.

The task was more difficult this year for the teams that participated in this particular edition. First of all, the sanitary rules in effect complicated the production of the products. The closing of the businesses caused problems for the purchase of raw materials. Finally, the sales were more difficult to make in the context that we know but, despite everything, it was a great edition. The Dragons have chosen to offer a $250 scholarship to five teams that have particularly distinguished themselves.

Here are the awarded projects:

• For the professionalism of the project as a whole: Les Porte-Bonheurs
• For the perseverance shown by the team members: Glorious
• For its involvement in its community and the social project : PBL Vert
• For the altruism of this team which donated all its profits to the cause of Leucan: Les Rois du bouchon
• For the quality of the product and the entrepreneurial qualities demonstrated with the project: Stockage+

Gala Zénith
Thanks to a collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thetford Mines, a team will present itself at the Gala Zénith on October 27th to receive the "Coup de coeur Desjardins" award. This year, the Stockage+ team impressed the Dragons by creating a product that meets a need of students. Also, the high quality of their product, the attention paid to the finishing details and especially the team's willingness to continue the project in the coming years, attracted attention. This allowed them to get their hands on the Dragons' favorite prize and an additional $750 to allow them to continue their activities and develop their sales. This was a great opportunity to make the connection between the region's business community and this future entrepreneur.

The region's Caisse Desjardins have been partners in this initiative since the very first edition and their financial assistance is reserved for the realization of projects presented by our young people. In addition, we should note the contribution of the Carrefour Jeunesse-Emploi de Frontenac, which, thanks to the financial participation of the Secrétariat à la Jeunesse, ensures the follow-up of the projects throughout the year in the schools.

The organizing committee, composed of the Société de développement économique de la région de Thetford and the Carrefour Jeunesse-Emploi de Frontenac, would like to thank all those who participated, collaborated and made this activity possible, namely:

• The guidance counsellors, teachers and school staff members accompanying the youth in their projects;
• The financial partners: Caisse Desjardins de la région de Thetford, Caisse Desjardins du Carrefour des Lacs;
• The Dragons: Ms. Dominique Noiseux (Desjardins), Mr. Frédéric Paré (E'MindTek Solutions) and Mr. Stéphane Morin (Late Night studio and La Face de Boeuf).
