Pilot project between the SDE région de Thetford and the Megantic English-Speaking Community Development Corporation

Thetford Mines, January 14, 2021. The Société de développement économique de la région de Thetford (SDE), Tourisme Région Thetford (TRT) and Megantic English-Speaking Community Development Corporation (MCDC) are pleased to announce today an innovative partnership. Initially, the goal is to better reach, inform and communicate with the English-speaking community of the MRC des Appalaches, but also with the large English-speaking community outside our region.

Thanks to the services offered by MCDC, the SDE Thetford region and Tourisme région de Thetford will be able to benefit from a regular English translation service. On several occasions in the past, the collaboration between the organizations has contributed to the translation and distribution of various documents to the English-speaking population of the Thetford region and elsewhere.

"We have been working closely with MCDC for several years. For us, it is a very important added value for the development of the region. In terms of economic development, we regularly interact with English-speaking promoters, entrepreneurs and stakeholders. In addition, we work on several projects with MCDC, which collaborates regularly with our team. This innovation is therefore natural for us. It's an enhancement to our communication activities," explains Mr. Luc Rémillard, SDE's General Manager.

"This collaborative project between the SDE Thetford region and the MCDC is the logical next step in the development of our organization. In fact, for several years now, we've wanted to participate more in the region's economic development and outreach and we are pleased to support the team of professionals at SDE and Tourisme région Thetford," says Brian Gignac, Executive Director of the MCDC.

About Megantic English-speaking Community Development Corporation
MCDC offers a wide variety of services, initiatives and programs to all age groups, such as community animation, community health promotion, access to health and social services in English, volunteer services, youth initiatives, programs for seniors and caregivers, information and referrals, and many others. In order to help bridge the two linguistic communities of the region, MCDC also offers two activities targeted at French speakers: a conversation club where French speakers can improve their English skills and a playgroup for pre-schoolers and their parents where the toddlers have the opportunity to get familiarized with the English language.
